I am now a mother of two I now get to use the word kids instead of just child or kid. I don't know that it had fully sunk in when I was holding back in my arms and that I was now a parent of two.
As a new parent of two, I will be honest: April is a complete blur! I know a lot of amazing memories were made, silly things were said, beautiful moments happened and I know I captured as many as I didn't. I was sleep-deprived, recovering from giving birth, getting used to my time being divided between my two kids, feeling guilty about not being enough for either of my kids and trying to keep up with the day-to-day tasks. It was a blur. Don't get me wrong, it was an amazing month, but it just a blur. So this month's story will be told more through pictures than words. Think of this blog as more of a silent movie with some captions ;-)
Our first day of April was spent in the hospital cuddling with Jack all day long. We were going to go home that evening but because of his slight respiratory issues, I was nervous to take him home. The doctor was willing to clear him but the way she spoke about him being able to go home seemed like she was a little hesitant which made me very hesitant. So we spend another night in the hospital. Michelle was sweet enough to bring Lilly back to see us again. I really missed my little girl and she missed us too. The funniest part was when she came into the hospital room: she held Jack and then immediately asked for a snack. I guess even with a new baby around Lilly is still ruled by her stomach.
The next day we prepared to go home.
Lilly asks to hold Jack several times a day. She loves him so much!
Jack is not a huge fan of his carseat, but clearly he finds ways to be comfortable. He looks so tiny in this seat!
We had to take him to the doctor two days after our discharge to make sure he was gaining weight. They insisted on another heal stick to test for jaundice :-( They then claimed they did not get enough blood and were going to do it again two days later...luckily they didn't need to! Phew!
BLISS
I've said it before, but when you have a second baby, be prepared for your first born (whatever age they are!) to suddenly seem like they grew a year older overnight! Lilly has always seemed mature and smart to me, but she was still my baby girl. Now...she is my little girl...sniff, sniff.
Kelly came to visit us and bring us a meal. Lilly loves Kelly and was super excited to see her. Of course Kelly needed so Jack snuggles too :-)
Sunbathing to make sure he didn't need another heal stick!
I won't go into detail, but Lilly and I got the stomach bug. She was a lot worse off than I and it KILLED me that she was feeling so terrible. I have never seen her so miserable. We spent two days on the couch and couldn't keep anything down...not fun!
Luckily Jack did not get sick!
Worn out!
It's amazing how much a newborn sleeps! You sort of forget this, since everyone always jokes about how parents never sleep.
Lunch at Chilli's!
Having fun with selfie mode
Lilly and I had some mommy-daughter time at Addy and Zoey's school carnival. There were games, face painting and ice cream, as well as good friends!
I remember Lilly insisted on staying after everyone was leaving to finish her picture. Her artistic talents have grown so much the last few months!
Lilly started refusing to play soccer...so we insisted that she at least go to practice, even if just to watch. She committed to the team, so she needed to go.
He looks so TINY in this picture! He still sleeps in this rock and play.
Lilly wanted me to braid her hair :-)
We took a family trip to the Science Museum in downtown. That place is amazing!!!!
Jack sleeps on me a lot...I love it!
When you have two kids, sometimes the baby needs to go where the toddler wants...including outside!
We bought Lilly a jeep. It is one of her absolute favorite toys and I love seeing how happy it makes her! She is now an expert driver, too!
Baby burrito!
Lilly, Jack and I went to the NC State Farm Days with the Stotts and Priests. The girls had an absolute BLAST seeing all of the animals and Jack was a rock star in the Ergo.
Mom came to visit!!! She timed her visit so she came when Darren had to go back to work and let me tell you, that was the smartest thing we did! My mom is amazing anyway, but having her there the first week I would have been "alone" was perfect! It was also so precious to see her bond with Lilly and Jack. I miss her so much!
These next two pictures were at the White Rabbit anniversary party.
There is something so genuinely adorable about this picture of Lilly...I think it's her hands! She did this on her own when Darren said he wanted to take her picture lol
Outdoor fun!
This was Jack's first bath in the actual bathtub. Before that, he had washcloth baths.
Our church quilters made a beautiful quilt for Jack. They even embroidered his name and birth date on it!
Grandma's last day with us :-(
Stop getting so big! How is it possible that she can climb this on her own???
First soccer game! Lilly scored her first goal!!! She was so incredibly excited! It was amazing that Grandma was able to be there to see it as well :-)
We had a great time at Grace's birthday party at Bounce U!
Lilly got on stage and sang with Kids NPraise! I was so proud of her!
These two!
Jack did NOT like bath time...poor baby!
Soccer pictures! Darren was helping to coach this day.
Aaaaand that's a wrap for April! Hopefully I will follow my own advice and get better about writing down the memories AS they happen and stop trying to remember things two months later!
