Lilly Rae - Week 24

Sunday, November 25

I finally gave in and accepted that my baby girl is ready for solid food.  I was in denial about it because I wanted to think of her as a tiny baby who could not handle it, but after a week of Lilly watching us intently while we ate and reaching for our forks, I knew she was ready to give it a try.

Tonight we tried rice cereal for the first time!  It was so exciting J  She wasn’t 100% sure how to handle the spoon when I put it in her mouth, so she sort of nursed off of it.  It was adorable.  It didn’t take long before she got the hang of it and was eating like a champ.  My baby is growing up!

Monday, November 26

Today Lilly had a play date with Sam at Miss Kristi’s house.  Sam is 8 months old.  Kristi told me that Lilly was very interested in Sam and wanted to grab him and play with him, but he was a little shy.

We tried avocado for the first time today.  I think Lilly was taken aback by the texture because I didn’t puree it, I simply mashed it.  She would push the food out of her mouth with her tongue and make a weird face.  I will have to try again when I puree it.

Tuesday, November 27

Lilly has loved looking at herself in the mirror for months now, but it’s especially cute now because she tries to talk to herself in the mirror.  One of my favorite things that she does is after she sees herself in the mirror, she gets all excited, kicks her legs so she bounces in my arms and then she buries her head in my shoulder as if she is hiding from her reflection like a shy little girl.  It’s absolutely adorable.

Lilly really enjoys sitting in her Bumbo seat and playing with her toys.  That seat is amazing!  She gets to work on sitting up and the try lets her have toys right at her fingertips.  The down side is that she likes to throw her toys and then she can’t reach them.  I can see how kids could tip these seats over because Lilly gets very determined to get her toys.  Don’t worry, we always watch her when she is in the seat and we’re not leaving her on any countertops ;o)  Check out the video below!

Wednesday, November 28

Lilly recently started leaning back when she is being held and being the "upside down baby."  It's as if she is trying to see the world in a new way.  I love it!

Kristi is so great to send me pictures almost every day so I can see my baby when I am at work.  I miss her SO much, and these pictures really help.

Thursday, November 29

Both of Kristi’s daughters are amazing dancers, so we decided to dress Lilly in her ballerina outfit one day since the girls like to “dance” with her when they come home from school.  It still amazes me how many tutus we received for Lilly.  They are super cute.  I hope Lilly likes to dance when she gets older J

Kristi bought Lilly a few Christmas bibs.  I love the red one because it says “Santa Loves Me.”  I am so excited already for Lilly’s first Christmas and her first visit with Santa!

Is Lilly my daughter, or what?

Friday, November 30

We’ve learned that sometimes it is the simplest things that Lilly really loves and enjoys.  For example, Kristi had a small plastic fish toy that is meant for the bath and Lilly played with it for a long time while sitting in her high chair.  Kristi thought it was so cute she took three pictures for me J

When Lilly lays on her playmat, sometimes she twists herself all the way around so she can see what is on the TV.  Today I was playing Sesame Street for her and she turned as soon as she heard Elmo come it.  It was adorable!

Saturday, December 1

Lilly was amusing herself on Saturday morning by singing to herself and banging on the couch while Darren held her.  It was so cute I had to snap a few pictures.

Later that day we went to Chad and Michelle's to celebrate Ryan's third birthday.  It was great to see Michelle's family.  Everyone is so sweet to Lilly and it's great to have so many extra arms to hold her.

Lilly Rae - Week 23

Sunday, November 18
Lilly really loved playing in her exersauser.  She loves playing anywhere really, but this is especially great for her because she can be upright and there are so many new things to see!

Darren is a great puppeteer.  Lilly always get a kick out it :o)

23 weeks old...where has the time gone???

It's hard to believe how much stronger Lilly is after just a few weeks!  She has such great head control and strength now!

I am still not sure who she looks like.  I see a lot of Darren in her in this picture.

Monday, November 19

Mondays are always hard.  I miss Lilly so much.  Luckily this is a short week, so I only have 3 days without my baby before getting to spend 5 straight days with her!

Kristi sent these pictures of Lilly playing in her Bumbo seat.
Lilly loves Gus Gus.  She loves any dog she has seen actually.  She loves to pet them and reach out her hand for kisses.  She does this with Maggie as well and cracks up when Maggie licks her.
We are still waiting (patiently?) for her blocked tear duct to clear up.  I like to think it is getting better, but it seems that every day I think it is clearing up, the next day is worse.

Tuesday, November 20
Lilly is so vocal!  She loves to sing and grunt!  Sometimes people think her grunting means she...well...had to do her business, but it's actually just the way she "coos"!  Haha.

Lilly makes the most adorable face when she is concentrating on something, especially when she has something new to play with.  I love it!

Wednesday, November 21

Kristi's daughter, Mia, loves Lilly and Lilly loves Mia.  They are watching Elmo together on the laptop. Lilly likes to play with the big girls.

We are still waiting for her teeth to come in.  Until then, there is only one place all of her toys are headed: her mouth!

Thursday, November 22

Lilly’s first Thanksgiving was so great!  We traveled to Lexington to spend Thanksgiving with some great friends.  We first stopped at the Riddle’s house to visit with them and settle in to their guest house that they graciously let us stay in for the night.  Then we headed to Erin and Pete’s house.
It was great to see Erin, Pete, Teri and Ron, and of course Chad, Michelle, Jared, Carissa, Allie, Ryan, Addie and Drew.  We are so lucky that we have such amazing friends in Carolina who treat us like family.  It’s hard being away from our families during the holidays, but we are never lonely because of the amazing friends we have.

We had Lilly dressed in her holiday dress, complete with brand new shiny black shoes.  Too bad they would only stay on for a few seconds before Lilly would kick them off!  Oh well.  She still looked adorable.  It was nice because everyone wanted to see Lilly and hold her and she was so friendly and loving to everyone.

We took some nice family pictures that day as well.  It still surprises me how warm it is on Thanksgiving in Carolina.  I remember my brother and I used to go sledding every morning on Thanksgiving day and now we are outside enjoying the cool fall weather.

Lilly gave us a special Thanksgiving present by taking a nice nap just in time for dinner!  Darren and I were able to actually sit down together with everyone and enjoy a full meal J  I love Lilly with all of my heart, but I cannot remember the last time this happened!

Pete was making Lilly laugh so hard.  It was adorable!
Drew asked me if he could hold Lilly.  I love how much he loves her.
Ryan saw Drew holding Lilly and immediately wanted his turn :o)  Those boys are so sweet!

Friday, November 23

Lilly was completely passed out in Darren's arms when I came downstairs.

Visiting with the Holder family before heading home.
 Darren's former student, Alyssa.

This is where Lilly was when I set her down on her mat.
This is where I found her when I came back in the room from getting some water!

Lilly really liked Chad and Michelle's Christmas tree

Saturday, November 24

We decorated the house for Christmas today.  Lilly like the tree and the lights.  We realized we need to get a new stocking for Lilly!  It's amazing the little things that can be so exciting when you have a baby :-)  I cannot wait for her first Christmas morning.  Even though she is too young to really understand or remember, I know we will remember it forever.

We still do nightly tummy time after her bath.  I thought she was being so cute tonight I just had to snap some pictures.

Lilly was getting frustrated during tummy time and making this funny scrunched up face and breathing really hard through her nose.  It was so funny I had to try to capture it on video.
