Lilly Rae - Week 2

Day 8  June 17, 2012
Lilly’s one week birthday was also Darren’s first father’s day!  I made him his favorite breakfast (cinnamon rolls) and gave him his gift.  Darren had started calling himself “Stinky Daddy” because he was feeling like he was always changing stinky diapers and Lilly was going to start associating him with…well, stinky diapers.  So I got him a new bottle of his cologne so he would never feel like “Stinky Daddy.”  Later that evening, we went to Chad and Michelle’s house to celebrate father’s day with our “North Carolina family”.  Michelle took a great picture of all the guys with the kids at the end of the night.  It was a great time with amazing friends and I was so glad my mom was there to celebrate with us as well.

We dressed Lilly in one of her prettiest outfits (thanks Aunt Jess!) for the occassion

Day 9  June 18, 2012
We spent to morning lounging around and then got ready to go meet with a potential daycare provider.  After that, Lilly and I went to a breast feeding support group at the hospital.  It was my first time traveling with her on my own and I was so happy that she behaved perfectly in the car.  I was not happy with the breast feeding group though.  They were very focused on weight and made me feel pretty badly that Lilly had only gained 1 ounce since leaving the hospital.  I came home and cried to my mom and Darren, who supported me 100% and made me feel so much better.  We then decided to go out to dinner and then go grocery shopping so my mom could make us some of our favorite meals for the rest of the week.

Relaxing in her swing and getting a little sunshine through the window.
I just love her expressions in these pictures.

Lilly had her first experience at Bass Lake Ale House and then we went to Walmart for groceries.  She was perfectly behaved in both places!

Day 10  June 19, 2012

We spent time just cuddling today and hanging out with Grandma.  My teammates, Amber, Shanequia and Kim came to meet Lilly that afternoon, but unfortunately, I did not take any pictures.  They brought food with them (thank you ladies!) and filled me in on some stuff going on at school, but mostly they just took turns holding Lilly.  It was so nice to see them!

We also went for a short walk around the neighborhood since the weather was still pretty mild.  It was nice to get outside with Lilly.  I tried to make it a goal to go outside at least once a day.  I know that might sound crazy to some, but to those who have had a baby, you probably know how hard it can be to get outside!

Day 11  June 20, 2012

We had special visitors today!  Our friend Jess R. came over with her new baby girl, Emma Lane.  Darren and I had met Emma about 5 days after she was born, but Jess and Emma had yet to meet Lilly.  It was great to see Jess and Emma and to see the girl together.  I am so excited to have friends with kids who are close to Lilly's age.  It will be so nice for her to grow up with other kids.  It was just a coincidence that both girls were wearing navy blue and white; I swear we didn't plan it!

Day 12  June 21, 2012

Mom and I thought it would be fun to try to work on a baby book for Lilly together, so we ventured out to Hallmark to find one.  Little did I know they were $45!  I was not willing to spend that, so I decided to create a digital book instead.  Plus, I figured I will keep up with this blog and that would serve as a "baby book" in a way.

Day 13  June 22, 2012

I had a lot of fun on this day taking pictures with Lilly.  I absolutely love her hands and feet.  Everyone comments on her long, beautiful fingers and her long, adorable toes.  I love her toes because she uses them to grip things and she splays out her toes when she stretches.  We started calling them her “monkey toes”.  I just want to remember how tiny her little hands and feet are and how cute they are!

 She makes the cutest expressions!

Day 14  June 23, 2012

Grandpa came to pick Grandma up today, but unfortunately, I did not take any pictures of him with Lilly.  It was so nice that he drove all the way down here to get to meet Lilly and also to make sure that Mom was not driving by herself.

Lilly has amazing neck control and is very strong for a newborn, in my opinion.  She is always trying to lift her head and she likes to sit upright and see what is going on.  She also had a very strong grip and her legs are capable of some very powerful kicks (though I knew this for the last 4 months of my pregnancy!)  It's amazing how much time we can spend just sitting with her and looking at her.  She's the best entertainment we have ever had.
